Location: Melbourne
Pool & Spa: Aloha Pools
Project Type: Residential
Photographer: Michael Kai

Located within the new $230 million Novotel Melbourne Airport hotel, this 20m x 3.6m lap pool offers a seamless blend of functionality, efficiency, and guest comfort. Designed to be low-maintenance and energy-efficient, the pool integrates cutting-edge filtration and water quality management systems, making it an ideal addition to Accor Hotels’ business and conference hub.
Meeting the Brief: Low Maintenance & Seamless Operation
With a focus on ease of operation, the pool features high-rate sand filtration, CO2-based pH control, direct chlorine injection, and a UV sanitiser, ensuring superior water quality with minimal manual intervention. A custom control panel automatically monitors and reports water quality and system performance, notifying the building manager of any required adjustments.

Overcoming Construction Challenges
The fully enclosed pool was built out of sequence due to site constraints and COVID-related labor restrictions. As the building envelope progressed faster than expected, the pool was formed on a blinding layer and integrated with existing cantilevered elements and large service provisions. Strategic planning ensured that despite these constraints, the pool seamlessly aligned with the structure.
Design Excellence & Sustainability
Internally tiled with glass mosaics, the pool features contrasting lap lanes and flush-mounted niche lighting for an enhanced swimming experience. A titanium heat exchanger, connected to the hotel's main heating system, minimizes energy consumption while ensuring optimal bather comfort.
A New Benchmark for Hotel Pools
This carefully engineered pool not only enhances guest experience but also sets a new benchmark for sustainability and operational efficiency within the Accor Hotels group. Designed for low cost, long-term performance, and seamless integration, it is a model for future hotel pools, prioritizing water quality, energy efficiency, and ease of maintenance.
