Construction Process (For Residential Pools)

Building a pool is an exciting journey that transforms your backyard into a personal oasis. From the initial design to the final touches, each step requires careful planning and execution to ensure your dream pool becomes a reality. In this guide, we'll walk you through the entire process, giving you a clear understanding of what to expect along the way.

Preliminaries

• Sales team conducts initial discussions to understand project scope and design requirements.

• Onsite inspection to assess landscape, site access and the size of the project.

• Client approval of final pool design and relevant included components

• Detailed engineering plans are drafted, which forms the basis pf the pools construction.

• Engineering plans and drawings are submitted to the local council for a Development Application approval and a Construction Certificate.

Scheduling

• Implementation of a detailed plan outlining key project stages to ensure clients have a clear understanding of the build schedule.

Excavation

• The pools exact location and shape is marked out on the property with wooden shafts by a surveyor in preparation for the excavation.

• Excavation crew carefully and precisely digs, forms and hand-trims the pool based on its design specifications.

Plumbing

• Professional plumbers fit all the required pipes, lines, lights and skimmer to the pool shell.

• All lights and internal pool electrical lines are laid.

• Pipes are capped off to ensure no materials enter the pipes during the construction stage

• Pipes will either be run just outside the pool shell, or run all the way to the finished equipment location for all equipment to be fitted and connected at a later step.

Steel Fitting

• Formwork is carefully set out to provide a stable backboard (or frame) for the future concrete pour.

• A steel crew forms a rigid contoured grid of reinforced steel to create the pools backbone per engineering plan specifications

• Any swim outs, steps or ledges found in the design are included in the steel frame.

• The reinforced steel frame is critical to the structural integrity of the pool.

• An independent licensed inspector ensures the founding and steel work is in accordance with engineering specifications.

Concrete

• The pools structural concrete shell is sprayed.

• ‘Curing’ period is observed to enhance the pool’s structural integrity.

• Formwork used to define the shape of the pool is removed - the pool shape can now be seen.

• Further PVC pipes are laid beneath the pool running to the designated equipment location.

• Pipes are bought up out of the ground (“stood up”) ready for the installation of the pool equipment.

Note: The pool equipment installation is usually carried out at a later stage depending on whether the construction site is well secured.

Interior

• Hand laid installation of waterline tiles, which are carefully grouted around the top of the pool by a skilled tiler

• For fully tiled pools installation is done in conjunction with waterline tiles.

• For pools that aren’t fully tiled installation is carried out when the pools interior is applied.

• Regardless of the pools finish e.g exposed aggregate, quartz etc, once securely set the surface is now durable and non porous, which will last for years

• The pool is ready to be filled with water.

Equipment

• Prior to equipment being installed, all plumbing lines are pressure tested to ensure no damage was incurred during the build.

• The equipment is a key factor in keeping the pool low maintenance.

Commissioning

• An Aloha Pools staff member will finalise installation of cleaning heads, jets etc and begin the operation of the pool, now that the construction phase is over

• Fine tuning is carried out to make sure the pool is operating and performing properly n preparation for handover.

Handover

• Clients are given an in-depth walk-through of the pools operation, equipment procedures and maintenance requirements with the construction manager.

• This is an opportunity for clients to raise any concerns or ask any questions they may have and to become familiar and confident with their pools operations.

• Documented pool variations made since initial contract signing are provided by the construction manager.
